Fremont received its first settlement in the year 1797 when Father Fermin de Lasuen founded a mission located to the NE of Pueblo of San Jose. History
It was in the year 1846 that John C Fremont after whom the city was named mapped a trail through Mission Pass, giving settlers access to the fascinating Bar Area. Historians associate him with the title of A Great Pathfinder. In 1853, Washington Township was set up including the communities of Mission San Jose, Warm Springs, Centerville, Niles and Irvington. This township was the political, and sociocultural epicentre of all of the United States.
In the early 1900s, Niles district in Fremont was the centre of the film industry. Charlie Chaplin has pictured many movies in this areas such as the Fremont area. Another iconic brand that is associated with Fremont is the Silicon Valley. This city also served as the venue for the Mac computer manufacturing plant located in Fremont. An entire group of semiconductor and telecom firms also grew in this area. By the late 1990s, close to 750 high tech companies opened their offices or plants in Fremont. Some of the top growing public firms in the San Francisco Bay Area have emerged from Fremont area. In 2010, clean technology was born in Fremont city. In 2014, Fremont became a modern urban center for manufacturing industries.

Centerville Train Depot
This train depot was the venue for the first steam powered engine train in the region. This depot has been used for business as well as domestic travel. City of Fremont was offered ownership of the Depot and restoration commenced following this. Centerville Train Depot is now a historic landmark.

Leland Stanford Winery cum Historical Landmark
Leland, Stanford was the founder of Stanford University and a United States senator as well. He founded the winery in 1869 and it was originally the location of a resort for people from San Francisco.
